I AARHUS' ELEKTRONISKE MUSIK
Sammenstilling. Indblik i Aarhus’ Elektroniske Musik presented eight of Aarhus’ finest, most promising and perspective electronic acts. Curated by musician and producer Natal Zaks the limited edition vinyl and two day mini festival showcased the following bands: 2 Bit Crew, Central, DJ Sports, Isaktelefon, Jongpadawan, Maizena, Regelbau and Soft Armour. Every band contributed with a new recording and a great concert.
SOFT ARMOUR
Behind the electronic music project Soft Armour one find CR Hougaard. He has been an important part of the local electronic scene in Aarhus since 2009 and has created an impressively wide range of ambient releases on cassette and CD-R (Space Program, CR Hougaard & Forvarsel). Musically Soft Armour builds further on and expands the ambient sound scapes and explores the atmospheric varieties of techno in an expressively unique way.
ISAKTELEFON
Isaktelefon conjures up a very rare and rousing kind of electronic live music on his hardware. With the help of tools like drum machines, synthesizers and samplers his music consequently sounds different each time he’s expressing himself using the aforementioned tools. The music of Isaktelefon varies from ultra slow to ultra fast and it works perfectly well whether you want to dance or think - in an astounding way it suits both scenarios.
DJ SPORTS
Milán Zaks has a great interest in the many different ways of electronic music, and gradually he has established himself in the electronic environment of Aarhus under the alias DJ Sports. Here he explores a more rhythmically oriented sound, which, however, remain focused on the melodic elements of the sound. The music has a naive as well as playful expression. Along with his brother, Natal Zaks, Mílan Zaks founded the record company Help Recordings in 2013.
2 BIT CREW
The duo 2 Bit Crew consists of C.K. and O.P.T. who make electronic music. Since the beginning in 2012, they have released their material on various American and Spanish record labels, and they even started their own label in 2013. 2 Bit Crew’s earlier material derived much inspiration from the deep house of the 90’s. In the newer material focus is on simple repetitive elements and breaks which aim to to create grooves that drives the duo’s music forward.
REGELBAU
Regelbau is a collective comprising of 11 producers and DJ’s from Aarhus. Originally the group had its headquarters in an old bunker in Aarhuc C where they engaged themselves in their common interest in DJ’ing, records and music production. The ambition to spread the joy of music made open parties the natural continuation of Regelbau and they’ve since aimed at organizing parties that has the finger on the pulse. They’ve released two EP’s of experimenting house.
JONGPADAWN
The electronic composer Mads Bering makes music under the alias Jongpadawan. The music, which mainly leans towards hip hop and instrumental beats, is also inspired by other genres and styles, which is clearly reflected in Jongpadawan’s material. One can hear a mix between a digital and an organic sound in the music, that creates a unique and particularly breathtaking sound universe. Jongpadawan released his debut EP “Far Away” on Greased Up Records in 2014.
MAIZENA
Maizena makes electronic music of the rhythmic and ambient kind. “Luxus Rhythms”, the band’s debut, was released on C40 in the summer of 2015 on local Help Recordings. The members are individually active on the electronic scene of Aarhus, but are also to be found internationally. Maizena sets up the frames for a free space build on simple and repetitive aspects that tests the listener’s patience. The band consists of Manmade Deejay, DJ Sports, C.K. and Central.
